This guy’s argument rests on a very slim evidence base. As he says there has been a 40% increase in calls to Release about drugs testing at work in a year, he extrapolates from that fact that employers are using random drugs testing to avoid paying employees their redundancy pay. Well I don’t know whether or what he has been smoking but the case he puts forward appears very paranoid and devoid of logic. As a firm, we know of no employee that has been tested for drugs who has not been working in a job where being under the influence of drugs poses a safety risk either to the employee or the public. Does anyone know any case involving a random drug test being set up to avoid a redundancy payment?
