Modern Slavery Act

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 has meant any business turning over more than £36m must publish a modern slavery statement each financial year.

At the time the Act was introduced, the Government published guidance for best practice. This has since been updated and summary of the changes are:

–           Previous statements must be easily accessible on the employer’s website

–           Employers with smaller turnovers should voluntarily produce a statement, this would help them as a supplier to employers who are bound by the Act

–           Statements should not include generic terms (committed to/ a culture of etc.) unless evidence can be shown to support the claim

–           Statements should show practical steps taken to address any modern slavery issues

–           The Director who signs the statement should have been involved in drafting/approving it

–           The date the statement was signed should be visible
