..but who you know as the old saying goes. A prison officer from HMP Leicester has been sacked for befriending criminals on Facebook. We have blogged before on employers snooping around facebook. In this case the employee was suspended on suspicion of trafficking mobile phones and other items into the prison. The investigation revealed no evidence of trafficking but did detect that he claimed to be friends with 13 known criminals.
In his defence he claimed he knew them from school or playing football which begs the question of quite where he went to school! He then said he had just accepted people who asked to be his friend, which after the event he realised was abit naive. Not a great defence although the story did not say whether the friendly criminals were detained at HMP Leceister at any point.
