The Equality Bill is being debated today as it reaches the next stage in the legislative process before coming law later this year.  You will remember it is designed to simplify the current law into one piece of legislation.

Among the amendments up for discussion today include the proposal to ban names from CV’s and job applications to try to prevent discrimination.  The suggestion has been criticised as being too bureaucratic.  As well as that proposal, the proposal that employers of more than 250 employees will have to publish their pay gap information in 2013 if the gender gap has not closed by then.  (Given it has not closed in over thirty years another three is unlikely to make a difference in my view!)

If the Bill succeeds in its current form many of the proposals will come into effect in March 2010 so watch this space…
