We have seen some unusual stories over recent months over protests made by workers in response to employers measures proposed in the recession. There were the stories of bossnapping and hostage taking. There have been sit-ins for weeks on end. Then there have been the protests reminiscent of old with strikes left right and centre. In recent years, the public sector have lead the way in strikes by the Royal Mail and teachers. There have been protests over foreign labour in a time when the redundancy figure keeps rising.
Today, we see in the news yet further wildcat strikes at refineries and power plants across the UK. This is a repeat of similar protests back in January this year. Again the issue appears to be “British jobs for British people” a phrase that no doubt Gordon Brown so regrets using! Will this cause problems with power remains to be seen. Is it just me or are we getting more militant?
