BIS (formerly DTI and BERR) has launched consultation about changing the rules about collective consultation regarding large scale redundancies. The consultation seeks views on reducing the 90 day minimum consultation period where it is proposed to dismiss 100 or more employees to either 30 or 45 days. A change many employers will no doubt welcome.

The consultation also proposes to publish a non-statutory code of practice giving guidance on good quality consultation.
