My career as a HR professional spans in excess of 20 years with solid HR knowledge and experience gained across the people management spectrum within a diverse range of organisations. This ranges from board level strategic HR to everyday HR and employment law matters. The best part of my job is having the opportunity to work in partnership with business leaders to help them put in place simple but effective people management solutions to decrease costs, increase profitability and create great places to work. I regularly find myself being drafted in to find swift resolutions to difficult or sensitive employment issues, either for organisations without a HR function, or for larger businesses who’s HR resources are already stretched.
I opted to spend the first three years of my post graduate career working in fast paced retail operations with Sainsbury’s and Tesco. It was incredibly hard work and a steep learning curve but the commercial acumen gained through this experience has proved invaluable in my HR career. From here I accepted a corporate HR role with PricewaterhouseCoopers and then moved through the ranks with operational HR roles at Siemens, Balfour Beatty, A-Plant and Homeserve. As a stepping stone to starting my own consultancy I made a strategic move towards stand-alone board level roles in the SME retail sector. It was in these stand-alone roles that my professional and commercial expertise, my tenacity and resilience was really tested. Fortunately I loved it. Enso HR Consultancy was created in January 2014 and has gone from strength to strength mostly through referrals. I have a diverse range of clients, the smallest being a village veterinary practice and the largest being a NHS Trust.
I have a BA (Hons) in Human Resources Management and achieved my qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) back in 1997.
When I’m not working I can usually be found in a pair of muddy boots walking my two dogs, a flat-coated retriever called Willow and a little street dog called Tilly. Tilly was rescued from a desperate situation in Romania through an animal charity who are close to my heart called K9 Angels. Both dogs love visiting a good old fashioned country pub after a weekend walk so it’s only fair that I indulge them. I love to travel and tend to take off somewhere distant with a backpack every couple of years for an adventure. Some recent travels have included New Zealand, Vietnam, South Africa, Australia, Italy and Croatia. I also love to read when I get time to sit down!
