I have over 18 years experience of employment law, 14 years of which are post qualification. I have had care and conduct of hundreds of employment tribunal cases for both employer and employee.
I have practised employment law since 2002. Since 2005 I have handled hundreds of Settlement Agreements ranging (unusually) from the employee paying money to their employer to employers paying six figure settlements to departing senior executives of international companies and listed companies.
I have handled Employment Tribunal cases in employment law jurisdictions including unfair dismissal, breach of contract, TUPE, redundancy pay, protective award, discrimination and deductions from wages.
I have acted in claims for multiple Claimants and in claims against multiple Claimants including a Trade Union. I have also obtained a £5,000.00 costs award for an employer in an employment tribunal claim on the basis of the Claimant’s unreasonable conduct and 2 costs awards against Respondents – one represented by Peninsula and one represented by a firm of solicitors.
I have a particular interest in high value settlement agreements and TUPE work not just before the employment tribunal but also at the contract negotiation stage, including drafting indemnities and warranties for blue chip clients on service provision changeovers and advising on all employment related aspects of sales and purchases including management buy outs. I have also advised clients on the TUPE implications of purchasing assets and goodwill from insolvent companies and their insolvency practitioners.
I started my Employment Law career as an Employment Law Consultant and Helpline Manager for a national employment law consultancy from 2002-2003 advising companies on a wide range of employment related issues. I qualified as a solicitor in February 2005 after having my training contract reduced by six months for good behaviour and joined PJH Law as an Assistant Solicitor.
I was promoted to Associate Solicitor in 2007. In my time at PJH I have conducted advocacy for clients at full hearings before Employment Tribunals nationwide and before the Employment Appeal Tribunal (including in two reported cases) and was instructed by the Claimant in Mercy v Northgate HR in the Court of Appeal.
I enjoy performance dinghy racing including competing at National, European and World Championships, windsurfing, kayaking (white water and flat water), canoeing, scuba diving, photography, computers and DIY. In 2015 I completed a self-build project and now live in that house.
I am also involved in teaching water sports in my spare time and I am qualified as RYA senior dinghy instructor, advanced instructor, race coach, windsurfing instructor and kayak coach.
