At the time of writing (Wednesday, 27th March) we are still in the E.U. and it is still uncertain whether it will be deal or no deal (or an extension). Regardless of what happens, the Home Office has rolled out its Application Portal for EU residents to apply for settled status to indefinitely remain in the UK post-Brexit.

If we do leave with no deal on Friday, many employers with EU national employees will be in a difficult situation where staff may not have the right to work in the UK. Employers should be mindful of this and check with any eligible staff whether they have applied.

For employees, from 30th March the applications will be free, removing the £65 fee. In comparison to applying for citizenship, settled status is quick and can be done from a tablet or smartphone. More information about settled status can be found here.
