It’s that time of year again. On the eve of the new National Minimum Wage rates coming into force, the Government has published its latest list of non-payers to name and shame them. As well as the usual hairdressers, car washes and hospitality offenders the big names on the list include Wagamama, Stoke & Birmingham City Football Clubs, TGI Fridays and Marriott Hotels.
In total over 9,000 workers across the country were underpaid £1,100,000.00. Offending companies not only have to make up the employee’s wages but also face a fine of up to 200% of the underpayment. This together with the negative publicity attached to being anNational Minimum Wage rates non-payer mean it is worth getting the new NMW rates input into your payroll software to avoid any issues come April.
