Gender Discrimination

It has been reported in Personnel Today that Halifax Bank of Scotland is being sued by a former employee for alleged sexual, racial and religious discrimination.

Mona Awad claims that she was subjected to various forms of discrimination during her employment with HBOS. When Awad complained of the behaviour to her boss she was transferred from the Nottingham branch to the Derby branch, where she was subjected to further discriminatory actions from another colleague.

Awad’s claim for £16.7 million is comprised of compensation for loss of earnings, injury to feelings, aggravated damages and punitive damages. She is claiming a percentage of HBOS’ gross turnover during the period that she was subjected to the discrimination.
